Sony Interactive Entertainment has officially announced the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition Midnight Black, a new color variant exclusive to the Japanese market. This console is scheduled for release on November 19, with a retail price set at 55,000 yen.
The console features a uniform black aesthetic for both the main unit and the included DualSense controller. Usage is restricted to PlayStation accounts configured with the system language set to Japanese and the region set to Japan.
Because this model lacks an integrated disc drive, users wishing to play physical software must purchase a separate disc drive. To support this, Sony is launching a matching Midnight Black disc drive on November 19 for 11,980 yen.
Pre-orders for both the console and the standalone drive are slated to begin on October 20. Interested customers can place orders through authorized PlayStation retailers and various e-commerce platforms across Japan.
