In an interview published in September by Cinema Today, game creator Hideo Kojima spoke with filmmaker and actor Shinya Tsukamoto about war-themed games, politics, and society. During the discussion, Kojima stated that Japan's current political state resembles its pre-World War II era.
The Death Stranding creator expressed concern that numerous wars are breaking out and that Japan might get dragged into a conflict without anyone speaking out against it. He also remarked that the world is being gradually damaged by disasters such as floods and earthquakes, noting that powerful individuals tend to go to war during such times.
Tsukamoto shared similar sentiments, pointing out that older adults appear to be fostering an environment conducive to conflict. Ultimately, both creators expressed a shared concern for the safety of younger generations who will inherit the consequences of today's society.
Reflecting on the uncertain times, Tsukamoto mentioned that he tries to maintain a sense of normalcy by convincing himself that things will turn out fine, even if everything goes wrong.
