Amazon Prime Video has cancelled future episodes of the Spider-Noir series featuring Nicolas Cage. Despite the production receiving positive backing from both audiences and critics, the actor has now provided insight into the circumstances surrounding the project's conclusion.
During a New York Comic Con panel, Cage stated that Amazon's significant 50,000 million dollar investment in OpenAI creates a corporate environment heavily aligned with artificial intelligence. This technological focus directly impacted his artistic involvement with the studio.
Cage explicitly refused to sign a liability waiver permitting the use of AI in Spider-Noir. He noted that he is not a member of the company's club, suggesting that this stance makes future collaborations with the studio unlikely, though he expressed indifference toward that outcome.
The cancellation follows the series reaching 2,600 million minutes viewed within its initial six weeks. While Cage did not definitively link the AI dispute to the show's termination, he indicated the topic was likely a factor while shifting his focus toward working with emerging Gen Z filmmakers.
