The long-running MMORPG RuneScape has announced a brand new game tentatively named RS4, built using the Unreal Engine. Alongside this project, developers also teased an upcoming animated adaptation to breathe fresh life into the franchise.

The initial animated trailer showcases adventurers riding giant dragons above floating islands before shifting to a three-headed creature chewing, then returning to a town as new adventurers arrive to begin their journey.

Developed originally by British studio Jagex in 2001, the medieval fantasy MMORPG became a childhood memory for millennial players in Western regions through browser accessibility, holding Guinness World Records for player counts, offering sandbox freedom without rigid classes.

RS4 was revealed at RuneFest 2026 alongside an official website launch. The team plans to release further details starting next year regarding the setting, mechanics, development staff, and launch availability.
