Rockstar Games is preparing for the release of GTA 6 on November 19, with expectations that the project could become the most realistic video game of all time. However, Rockstar North co-director Rob Nelson revealed in an interview with Love magazine that this pursuit of realism must be carefully managed to avoid becoming tedious.
Nelson explained that while realism enhances immersion, too much of it can frustrate the player, requiring a delicate balance. Developers must choose when to abandon strict reality in favor of player comfort and narrative flow, omitting aspects that do not serve the intended experience.
One notable and controversial decision in GTA 6 is the introduction of the requirement to refuel cars with gasoline, a franchise first that sparked concern about running out of fuel during police chases. Nelson defended the mechanic by stating the waiting time for refueling will be very short, though the team rejected other ideas, such as having to grocery shop to fill a refrigerator.
