Martin Klima, a co-founder of Warhorse Studios known for Kingdom Come: Deliverance, stated in an interview with PCGamer that he has no personal interest in playing Grand Theft Auto 6. However, he expressed a strong business interest in its success, hoping the upcoming title will lead the way in raising video game prices across the industry.
Explaining the economic pressures facing developers, Klima noted that production costs are continually rising. While increasing unit prices would help immensely, he observed that companies remain very fearful of taking that step themselves.
Klima pointed to several broader challenges within the games industry, mentioning that retail has been dismantled, audiences are failing to grow as desired, and digital storefronts no longer provide increased revenue per unit. Following what he characterized as an artificial demand surge driven by COVID-19, he hopes Rockstar Games will pave the way for higher pricing so that other developers can increase their earnings.
