Naoki Hamaguchi, director of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, revealed in a recent interview that he pushed to have the entire game included on a physical disc because he has collected physical games since childhood.
Despite these efforts, the title will instead be released as a Game Key-Disc, which requires players to insert the disc into the console to activate a download for the full game.
Hamaguchi explained that while he oversaw the game content, product lineups and sales versions are handled by the launch team, meaning his authority on the matter was limited.
Acknowledging that some fans will disagree with this format, Hamaguchi stated that he completely understands their position, did his best to avoid it, and recognizes that it is a very complicated issue.
Whether purchased for the PS5, Xbox Series X, or Nintendo Switch 2, the physical release does not contain the complete game, necessitating the download of all or a major portion of the contents.
