Sanjay Mehrotra, the CEO of Micron, has warned that the global shortage of RAM will not slow down anytime soon and is set to persist until and throughout 2028.
According to Mehrotra, the company has already sold practically everything it will produce across 2027 at prices significantly higher than those in 2026. Demand will continue to outpace supply capacity throughout 2027 and 2028, with Micron unable to foresee when a balance between supply and demand will be reached.
While Micron plans to open more factories in 2028, it still does not promise immediate improvements in prices or availability. Mehrotra noted that demand for HBM is growing much faster than demand for DRAM, and the company is attempting to increase its revenue from HBM.
Driven by this high demand and rising prices, Micron reported an 83% increase in revenue over the last three months. Specifically, the department responsible for selling DRAM grew by 90%, while SSD sales approached $10 billion.
