Epic Games has released a new preview client for its store, representing a complete architectural rebuild. The software is currently available for Windows and Mac, with a Linux version also provided for the first time.
The company claims significant performance gains, asserting that startup times have been halved. Epic states the client reaches the store page 46% faster than Steam, a metric reportedly verified by an external vendor.
Epic describes the new client as "vibe coded," confirming that AI tools were utilized to write new code rather than merely analyzing existing structures. GM Martin Keely noted that the team built the new features and capabilities from the ground up using a different tech stack.
Interface updates include a redesigned library view that allows users to import shortcuts for games installed via other platforms like Steam. Additionally, Epic is working on Easy Anti-Cheat upgrades to support multiplayer titles on Linux.
The client is currently in a beta-like phase, with Epic seeking gradual adoption through word-of-mouth rather than pushing updates through the existing software. Interested users can download the preview build directly from the official website.
