Former Nintendo employees Kit and Krysta recently revealed on their podcast that the company was displeased with a past Saturday Night Live sketch. The segment featured Elon Musk portraying the character Wario during a mock trial.
The comedic sketch depicted Wario on trial for the alleged murder of Mario. The performance incorporated various sounds and melodies from the video game series and included appearances by characters such as Luigi and Waluigi.
According to the former employees, Nintendo executives were unhappy because the parody appeared without warning or any official collaboration. The company lacked a relationship with the program, and there was no upcoming Wario game release to justify the segment. Furthermore, the involvement of Elon Musk contributed to the management's frustration.
Despite the internal annoyance, the situation did not escalate further. Parodies involving Nintendo intellectual property have continued on the show, including a recent sketch featuring characters from The Legend of Zelda and Grand Theft Auto.
