Epic Games has reportedly delayed its unannounced Disney shooter, which was initially slated for a March 2027 release. No updated launch window has been provided following this shift in production strategy.
The development team has been instructed to transition to an AI-first workflow, with reports indicating that staff were told to stop writing code by hand. The project, which is expected to feature Star Wars and Marvel characters, will utilize tools like Anthropic’s Claude to generate both artwork and programming assets.
Epic communications director Jake Jones stated that the company views this as AI-assisted development where human staff maintain creative leadership. CEO Tim Sweeney has further emphasized a broader corporate initiative to accelerate AI adoption, aiming to increase project output and eventually provide these capabilities to Unreal Engine users.
While human developers are tasked with overseeing the AI-generated output, the project's timeline remains uncertain. The original March 2027 target is no longer considered a confirmed release date, and the studio has yet to announce a revised schedule for the title.
