Kazutaka Kodaka shared during a Denfaminico interview alongside series composer Masafumi Takada that character designer Rui Komatsuzaki drew the iconic Danganronpa bear mascot, Monokuma, in five minutes.
Kodaka instructed Komatsuzaki to create a half-white and half-black bear featuring one cute side and one cruel side, and the initial drawing required zero subsequent edits.
Takada composed the franchise theme song in twenty minutes as a completely new intellectual property, embedding the franchise title to help players remember it while aiming for an atypical minor-key repeating melody.
The original game debuted on PlayStation Portable in 2010, while the upcoming remake Danganronpa 2 x 2 is scheduled to launch on January 14, 2027, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Switch, Switch 2, and PC platforms.
