Capcom has addressed concerns regarding its future development plans following a recruitment conference held on October 2. During the event, programmer Satoshi Ishida discussed the REX initiative, which aims to incrementally enhance the existing RE Engine rather than replacing it entirely.
The company intends to utilize AI to improve developer efficiency by automating tasks such as testing game code, analyzing large datasets, and refining development tools. These measures are intended to address the increasing resource demands and time required to produce modern, large-scale titles.
Capcom explicitly stated it has no plans to employ generative AI for asset or program creation. The company maintains that AI implementation will be strictly limited to optimizing internal processes, a stance previously communicated to shareholders in March.
The REX project focuses on providing teams with advanced tools to accelerate production cycles. Future titles from the developer include Resident Evil Veronica and Mega Man: Dual Override, which will benefit from these efficiency-focused technological improvements.
