At SAGA Barcelona Game Fest 2026, developer Red Mountain Games introduced AlcheMice, a turn-based roguelike strategy game featuring a mouse alchemist. Founded by two industry veterans with over 20 years of experience, the studio began full-scale development in February 2025. The team is currently targeting a 2027 release while seeking a publisher.
The core gameplay revolves around grid-based combat utilizing tarot cards and a complex alchemy system. Players must manage resources through processes like brewing, distilling, and fermenting to create powerful potions and card effects. This puzzle-like approach requires careful planning, as the game offers a hardcore experience where success depends on strategic decision-making rather than reflexes.
Designed as high-quality entertainment for adults aged 30 to 50, the game emphasizes thoughtful strategy over fast-paced action. While the difficulty is high, JC Montero notes that players are provided with all necessary tools to succeed. Playtests have yielded an average rating of approximately 8.6, with positive feedback from North American and European players.
The developers plan to release an Alchemy Book based on historical lore to help players manage complex recipes, some requiring over 15 distinct processes. Future updates include a public playtest scheduled for the first quarter of 2027, with improvements to the user interface and controller support. The game is intended for PC, including Steam Deck, with console releases also under consideration.
