Bandai Namco has announced that Ace Combat Zero will transition into a standalone application on Steam. Previously, the 2006 title was bundled exclusively within the 136GB installation of Ace Combat 8 as a pre-order bonus, a decision that triggered negative launch day reviews from players.
The upcoming change allows owners of the pre-order bonus to download and launch the 3.2GB port independently. While this update does not make the game available for new purchases, it provides a significant benefit by potentially freeing up substantial storage space on user drives.
Beyond storage improvements, the standalone version will introduce support for Steam Cloud saves. Despite the positive reception from the community, some users have requested the inclusion of achievements, which were featured in the original console release.
The game is currently undergoing final quality assurance and compatibility testing. Bandai Namco has not provided a specific release date for this update, though it is expected to arrive in the near future.
