Sony has officially unveiled a new digital Midnight Black PlayStation 5 console, priced at 55,000 Yen, which equates to approximately $350. This hardware is scheduled for release on November 19, coinciding with the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6.
The console features strict regional limitations, as Sony specifies it can only function with PlayStation accounts configured to the Japanese language and region. While users might attempt to bypass these restrictions, the device is effectively restricted to the Japanese market.
This release follows a trend of Japan-exclusive hardware, mirroring a similar digital model introduced in November 2025. Despite the appeal of the new colorway, the manufacturer has not indicated plans for a wider release in the US or Europe.
Market conditions remain challenging, as ongoing RAM shortages linked to AI datacenters have driven up hardware costs. Following price hikes for the PS5 and PS5 Pro in the US this past March, further increases remain a possibility.
