Apple has officially unveiled the HomeView, the company's inaugural smart home display. Featuring a 7-inch square Liquid Retina touchscreen and integrated Siri AI, the device functions as a central hub for household management, personal assistance, and smart home control.

The hardware includes a small aluminum base that serves as a speaker, with the display designed for both tabletop and wall-mounted configurations. Users navigate the interface through various swiping gestures, such as swiping down for a control center or up to access apps, which automatically populate from a connected iPhone.

Jennifer Pattison Tuohy notes the device offers a dedicated Home Widget for managing HomeKit devices, including thermostats and cameras. While the interface allows for convenient walk-up interaction, security remains a priority; for instance, the system requires facial or iPhone authentication before unlocking doors. Tuohy also highlights the guided cooking experience, which uses Handoff to transfer recipes from an iPhone to the display.

The HomeView is priced at $299 and is available for preorder starting today. Shipping for the device is scheduled to commence on November 13th.
