Epic Games has officially announced plans to bring Fortnite to Linux. This initiative aims to overcome the significant barrier that anti-cheat software currently poses for multiplayer gaming on the operating system.
The project centers on a comprehensive overhaul of Easy Anti-Cheat. Epic intends to build a native version of the software that functions without requiring translation layers like Proton, ensuring it matches the protective capabilities of the Windows version.
Fortnite will serve as the initial testing ground for this new EAC Linux v2. Epic plans to refine the system in a live environment before eventually offering the technology to other developers, enabling them to bring their own multiplayer titles to Linux.
While no specific release timeline exists, Epic confirmed the pilot program will be accessible via its new Epic Game Store launcher. This launcher is currently in a preview state and is described by the company as "vibe coded."
