Microsoft has launched a new division named XP, designed to consolidate the company's efforts in expanding Xbox gaming intellectual properties into film, television, merchandise, and location-based experiences like theme parks. The division, which stands for eXperience Points, integrates functions previously scattered across various Xbox teams.

Kayleen Walters, former president of Mojang, has been appointed to lead XP. Walters previously served at Lucasfilm for 13 years and acted as executive producer for the successful A Minecraft Movie. Under her leadership at Mojang, the Minecraft consumer products business grew to a multi-billion dollar scale.

XP will oversee four key pillars: Xbox Pictures, Xbox Products, Xbox Partnerships, and Xbox Places. While the division aims to grow fan communities through media and merchandise, Xbox Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball emphasized that games remain the core of these franchises. Maria Angelidou-Smith, formerly of Meta and Reddit, will succeed Walters as Mojang CEO starting October 19.

Xbox has seen mixed results with previous adaptations, ranging from the successful Fallout series on Prime Video to the Halo television show, which concluded after two seasons amid polarized fan reception. Future projects include a Minecraft movie sequel in July 2027, a Call of Duty film in June 2028, and a Minecraft World theme park in the UK in 2027.
