Ukrainian experimenter Valery Kryzhanovsky has applied a leaked build of DLSS 5 to the 1996 title Quake. Unlike native engine integrations, this project utilizes a post-process method to inject the AI upscaling technology into the game.

The implementation relies on ReShade and RenoDX to apply the DLSS 5 algorithm four times over frames rendered through DOSBox. This approach functions as an AI filter layered on top of the emulated game rather than a native engine feature.

Tom’s Hardware reports that the visual results are poor, noting that the image appears significantly darkened. The author attributes these issues to the fact that the leaked DLSS 5 build is undertrained and lacks the deep engine integration seen in previous ray tracing mods for the series.

While Nvidia recently announced that its official DLSS 5 model has achieved 2x performance improvements and a 24% smaller footprint, this modded experiment remains distinct from official, optimized implementations.
