Reports indicate that Xbox is paying a fraction of the previously rumored budget of 400 miljoner dollar for Hideo Kojima's new spy title Physint.
Christopher Dring of The Game Business originally mentioned in a podcast that Xbox signed Kojima for Physint with a budget around 400 miljoner dollar, adding he heard estimates ranging between 300 and 600 miljoner dollar. Dring later retracted this, stating Xbox likely pays significantly less than what Kojima initially asked Sony. Bloomberg's Jason Schreier described Microsoft's negotiated figure as considerably lower, and Windows Central's Jez Corden termed it a fraction, though no reporter gave a specific figure.
Physint, an action-espionage title and spiritual successor to the Metal Gear Solid series by Kojima Productions, was originally a PlayStation project. Sony reportedly pulled funding after the project exceeded budget and missed deadlines. The deal with Xbox also reportedly secures film and television licensing rights for Physint, alongside improved terms for Kojima's other project, OD.
Xbox recently confirmed exclusivity for certain titles while others remain multiplatform, leaving Physint's final platform availability uncertain. Kojima stated only that such an announcement will come later and he cannot say more at present.
