Intel is reportedly planning significant price increases for its silicon designs, according to supply chain sources cited by Commercial Times Taiwan. The upcoming Panther Lake processor generation, which utilizes the Intel 18A node, faces a potential price hike between 15% and 20% based on the specific SKU.
These adjustments target major laptop OEMs including ASUS, Acer, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. While these changes represent supply-side costs rather than direct consumer pricing, manufacturers may pass these expenses to buyers, potentially adding dozens of US dollars to device costs amid existing margin pressures from memory and storage pricing.
Older processor families, specifically Meteor Lake and Arrow Lake, are also expected to see price increases ranging from 5% to 10%. These adjustments, which reportedly took effect on September 1, are driven by high demand for silicon as AI workloads increasingly consume manufacturing capacity.
This trend extends beyond Intel, as Qualcomm has already raised prices for its Snapdragon X and X2 Elite SoCs by approximately 10% as of October 1. Furthermore, AMD is reportedly planning a similar 10% price increase for its EPYC server and Ryzen consumer CPUs, though an official announcement is pending.
