The open-source application DroidDeck has gained attention for its ability to run Steam games directly on Android devices. Unlike Steam Link, which relies on streaming from a PC, DroidDeck executes PC games locally using an ARM64 Linux Steam Client and x86 translation.
DroidDeck utilizes Proton to run Windows games and FEX for x86 instruction translation. The interface features a Big Picture mode similar to the Steam Deck and includes support for Steam Input, performance monitoring, and GPU driver management. Additionally, the application allows integration with other storefronts like GOG, Epic Games, and Amazon Games.
Hardware requirements are specific, necessitating Android 9 or newer. The app officially supports Adreno 730 GPUs and higher, including the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, 8+ Gen 1, 8 Gen 2, 8 Gen 3, and 8 Elite series. Devices with Adreno 6xx are currently in testing, though DirectX 12 titles may crash. Mali, Xclipse, and PowerVR GPUs are not supported.
The application does not require root access but demands significant storage, needing approximately 3 GB for runtime and over 1.1 GB for desktop and emulator operations. Performance demonstrations have been showcased on devices like the REDMAGIC 11 Pro equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and 16GB of RAM.
