Infinity Ward has revealed that the extraction shooter mode DMZ for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will launch ahead of the main game. Players who pre-order the title digitally gain access to this mode starting 20th October.
The release schedule for Modern Warfare 4 is staggered, with the campaign becoming available 16th October. DMZ follows on 20th October, while the full game, including multiplayer, arrives 23rd October on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch 2.
Regarding a potential PvE-only mode, Infinity Ward clarified that a previously glimpsed Single Squad Mission option was merely a developer tool for internal testing. The studio confirmed that while players can choose to play solo by disabling squad fill, they will still encounter other players in the same lobby.
The early release of DMZ allows players to gain map knowledge and accrue items before the full launch. This separate progression system may provide an advantage to those participating in the early access period.
