Capcom has successfully released reimagined versions of older survival horror entries such as the fourth, third, and second main installments. According to an anniversary book interview spotted by RENews via IGN, executive producer Jun Takeuchi addressed the future strategy as the reboot track eventually nears the modern era.
Executive producer Jun Takeuchi stated that once the remake series catches up to the numbered titles, a mysterious crossover event will occur. Preparations for this concept have been underway since around the development of Resident Evil Village.
Elements like Umbrella, Spencer, and the return of Raccoon City in Resident Evil Requiem were initially included as fan service. Takeuchi noted that players reacted with immense enthusiasm and analysis, prompting the team to push the setup further in Village and Requiem.
Meanwhile, additional projects are slated for the franchise timeline. A Code Veronica regurgitation is scheduled for 2027, followed by a Resident Evil 0 resurrection allegedly in 2028, as Capcom continues relying on nostalgic overhauls.
