Developer Atelier Sentô has officially launched their new visual novel, The Doll Shop, on the Steam platform. This narrative-driven title blends adventure and puzzle-solving elements within a unique atmospheric setting.
The game features a hand-drawn art style and takes place in a snow-covered Japanese village. Players assume the role of a young, mysterious doll maker who reunites with a childhood friend. The story forces players to choose between their cherished dolls and the possibility of starting a new life, all while navigating a chilling environment.
Gameplay involves exploring the village, visiting various shops and homes, and interacting with local residents. The developers emphasize that player choices carry significant consequences, requiring careful consideration of every dialogue interaction throughout the experience.
Originally conceived as a free prototype during a student masterclass, the project has been completely overhauled with new music, dialogue, and hand-drawn visuals. Atelier Sentô drew inspiration from their time living in northern Japan, aiming to balance elements of horror with romantic charm.
