Smilegate has unveiled the "Nightmare Festival" to celebrate the first anniversary of Chaos Zero Nightmare, scheduled to begin on October 21. The update introduces Season 5, titled "Promise on the Snow," set on the icy planet Nivalis, alongside new combatants and significant quality-of-life improvements.
Season 5 introduces the new striker Roswiese, who utilizes a unique "Light and Dark" card mechanic. This system allows players to split cards into two components that react to actions, enabling continuous attacks. Additionally, the update adds the controller Blaze-Bell and the versatile combatant Dalia, who focuses on combining card effects for enhanced performance.
The update brings substantial system refinements, including a revamped "Memory Fragment" crafting system that allows players to select primary and secondary options. Combat speed adjustments and increased free attempts for simulation challenges aim to reduce player friction. Furthermore, the "Great Rift" content is now divided into subjugation and merit battles, featuring improved boss pattern indicators.
To mark the anniversary, Smilegate is offering login rewards, including combatant and partner selection tickets, 1,600 crystals, and various recruitment anchors. A new idle tycoon mode, "Nightmare Dream Park," will also launch, allowing players to manage a park for rewards. Offline celebrations include a collaboration cafe in Korea and Japan, merchandise sales, and a live performance at AGF 2026.
