Key information
Developed by the five-person team CanOpener, Dungeon Settlers is a strategy simulation game that blends settlement management with dungeon exploration. The title, which debuted on Steam in January 2024, gained significant attention during the June Steam Next Fest. It officially entered early access on September 4.
The game tasks players with building a forward base near a portal to destroy the core of a dungeon. Mechanics require balancing resource-heavy settlement management with real-time-with-pause combat. According to CEO Moon Hyung-woo, this design forces players to make difficult choices, as actions in the dungeon directly impact the survival and resource availability of the settlement.
While players have praised the game for its unique character building and the organic integration of management and combat, some have noted that the current amount of content is insufficient. Moon acknowledged these concerns, stating that the team is prioritizing the addition of more content to expand the game's depth.
CanOpener plans to continue refining the experience through regular updates. While the team intends to address balance issues and user feedback regarding quality-of-life improvements, the primary focus remains on expanding the game's content. The full release is currently scheduled for the third quarter of 2028.
