Key information
The Quake community has released an ambitious new free level pack titled Quake Rooftops Jam, adding 19 custom maps focused around rooftops to id Software's classic 1996 first-person shooter.
Because Quake is traditionally a corridor shooter, featuring rooftops as the primary play-space presents an unusual and challenging design space more commonly associated with games like Thief: The Dark Project and Dishonored.
The new release features a variety of wildly different designs, including Robert Yang's sun-soaked Mediterranean coastal village map Mermaids in the Basement, the platforming-heavy sprawling cityscape Once, But No More, and the gothic spire maze City of Traitors.
Players can download Quake Rooftops Jam from Slipseer. To play it, users need a Quake sourceport such as Ironwail or vkQuake, extract the files into a new folder named 'qrtjam' within their Quake directory, and launch the sourceport using the command line "-game qrtjam".
