Recent reports suggested that Xbox would secure streaming rights to Grand Theft Auto 6, which would provide its platforms with a significant advantage. However, Xbox Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball addressed these claims and confirmed that the game will not be an Xbox streaming exclusive or accessible to stream on PC.
As a heavily anticipated title of the decade, the game is scheduled as a timed console exclusive releasing on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, leaving PC players without a day-one release. A prior report from The Verge, originating from an undisclosed source at Xbox discussing a statement by Asha Sharma during an employee all-hands meeting, had sparked rumors that the title would arrive on PC through Xbox Cloud Gaming.
The rumor gained credibility because Xbox previously announced limits on free hours for Xbox Cloud Gaming starting in November. Requiring payment for extra playtime would have generated profit from PC users seeking early access.
Xbox Cloud Gaming enables users to stream titles from their digital libraries across diverse devices without needing physical console access. Despite this functionality, Matthew Ball clarified that the title will not feature on the cloud service at launch, denying PC users an alternative way to play early.
