Xbox Play Anywhere is a Microsoft gaming initiative that allows players to purchase a single game license and play it across consoles, PCs, and compatible devices with cloud save progression. However, Microsoft plans to limit cloud gaming aspects starting in November.

While the program previously faced challenges attracting third-party publishers and classic titles, Windows Central reports that the situation has shifted positively this year with a growing catalog of both new and veteran games.

Recent additions and growing entries include prominent titles like The Witcher 3 and Baldur's Gate 3, whose creators praised the ecosystem. Additionally, 4A Games will bring Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light to the program alongside free next-gen updates, alongside indie titles such as TCG Card Shop Simulator and AA projects like Tainted Grail: Fall of Avalon.

Future and recent AAA titles are also confirmed for the initiative, including Monster Hunter Stories 3, Subnautica 2, and upcoming projects from Square Enix, which has committed to supporting multi-device play with single purchases for releases like Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy Resonance.

Despite these gains, challenges remain with certain major publishers. EA currently rejects the program entirely, Ubisoft prefers its own separate Ubisoft Connect launcher while using a hybrid cross-buy approach, and Capcom maintains a mixed stance by including Onimusha: Way of the Sword while excluding titles like Resident Evil Requiem and Pragmata.
