Key information
Specifications for Microsoft's unannounced third-generation Xbox Elite controller have reportedly surfaced online following a recent unboxing. A Reddit user discovered information regarding the device within the background code of the Xbox Design Lab, revealing the development codename Edessa alongside a customizable accessory codenamed Beatrice.
The leaked data indicates that the new controller will address common drift issues by incorporating Hall effect TMR joysticks. Additional feature descriptions point to multi-resistance interchangeable joysticks, advanced haptic feedback, a volume roller, swappable faceplates, customizable rear paddles in various sizes and shapes, and multiple D-Pad options, totaling 27 accessory combinations.
Factory accessories will reportedly be split into basic and complete editions. The basic version includes short custom paddles, handleless paddles, and a charging cable, while the complete version adds a protective case, long paddles, and a charging dock. Meanwhile, advanced haptic feedback appears to be an optional add-on available for both Elite and standard versions across four product models.
Although the web information has since been removed, uncertainties remain regarding how Microsoft will handle vibration signals for the haptic feedback. While utilizing Wi-Fi Direct instead of Bluetooth could potentially resolve compatibility hurdles for PC support, official details have not been confirmed.
