Key information

Recent reports suggested that Xbox had secured exclusive cloud streaming rights for Rockstar Games' upcoming open-world title, GTA 6. According to information published by Tom Warren of The Verge, Xbox executive Asha Sharma allegedly shared this development with employees during a morning all-hands meeting, indicating that users of Xbox's cloud gaming service would be able to stream the game when it launches on November 19, without other cloud streaming services having access.

The initial reports also implied that PC users might be able to stream the game through Xbox, potentially bypassing the wait for a native PC release since the title is currently slated only for Xbox Series and PS5. However, Matthew Ball, Xbox's chief strategy officer, stated that the report published by The Verge is incorrect. Ball clarified that there will be no such format exclusivity for streaming or on PC, though his phrasing left some ambiguity regarding potential agreements for other platforms.

Meanwhile, Xbox is set to implement monthly hour limits for cloud streaming on Game Pass, allowing 15 hours for Game Pass Ultimate, 10 hours for Premium, and 5 hours for Essential. While these restrictions might have aligned with expectations of handling high traffic from GTA 6 arriving on Xbox Cloud Gaming, it currently appears that exclusive cloud access will not happen.
