Key information

Microsoft's upcoming generation of hardware, known as Project Helix, will consist of a family of gaming devices instead of a single console. In a leaked internal memo obtained by Windows Central, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma outlined these hardware plans for the generation, building on hints she previously shared at Gamescom earlier this year.

The upcoming lineup will include a traditional console first, alongside hardware targeted at players on the go. Sharma noted that while Microsoft will manufacture certain items itself, it will also partner with other companies for different devices, stating that the new operating system is shaping up well.

This hardware approach follows Microsoft's strategy with the current generation, which launched with both the Xbox Series X and the Series S, as well as the company's hardware partnership with Asus to release the ROG Xbox Ally X.

The leaked memo also discussed the software ecosystem, touching on the Xbox PC app, Battle.net, and Blizzard's user retention levels. Sharma acknowledged the need to handle these platforms carefully for their respective communities as Microsoft prepares its next-generation hardware suite.
