Key information
Blizzard has introduced a new disciplinary measure called a Temporary Economy Hold to combat Real Money Trading (RMT) within WoW: Forever. Accounts suspected of buying or selling illicit gains will face restrictions on trading, mail, guild banks, and the Auction House.
According to official forum statements, this system is currently in a tuning phase. While the developer acknowledges the potential for false positives, they clarified that these holds do not result in permanent account strikes unless the activity is later confirmed to be RMT-motivated.
The implementation serves as a middle ground to protect the game's economy without immediately banning innocent players. PC Gamer notes that this approach allows users to continue playing most of the game while Blizzard investigates suspicious activity, preventing legitimate players from being caught in the crossfire.
These measures are critical for WoW: Forever, which lacks expansion-launch resets and will not feature a subscription time token at launch. By curbing bot activity, Blizzard aims to prevent the hyperinflation seen in other MMOs, such as Star Wars: The Old Republic.
