Epic Games has officially unveiled a refreshed version of its digital storefront application. The company stated that this new iteration of the Epic Games Launcher was built utilizing generative artificial intelligence, a process they humorously described in a blog post as vibe coding.

According to Martin Keely, vice president and general manager of the Epic Games Store, AI served as a tool to improve development efficiency. This approach enabled a small team to rewrite the entire code base, resulting in a faster, more responsive application that supports Windows and Mac, with a Linux version currently in development.

Keely clarified that the AI implementation focused specifically on architecture and code efficiency rather than artistic assets or design. The company's internal design group managed the visual updates, distinguishing this project from other initiatives where Epic has utilized generative AI for artistic content, such as Fortnite skins or reported upcoming crossover projects.

This release aligns with CEO Tim Sweeney’s broader strategy of retooling staff for maximum AI acceleration. While the new launcher aims to provide the fast, snappy experience previously promised by leadership, it enters a competitive market where many users remain deeply entrenched in the established Steam ecosystem.
