Key information

Amanita Design has officially announced Machinarium 2, a follow-up to their acclaimed 2009 puzzle adventure. While the developer has released a trailer for the project, a specific release date has not yet been established.

The sequel follows robots Josef and Berta as they navigate a world inspired by Renaissance landscape paintings and old master drawings. Players will switch between the two characters, utilizing their unique abilities to solve puzzles. The game maintains the original's non-verbal communication style, relying on symbols, gestures, and speech bubble icons rather than text.

Narratively, the story begins after the duo escapes the city of Machinarium and crash-lands in a barren region. They discover a hidden valley containing two robot tribes, the Elektrona monastery and the city of Oilton, both of which are facing a critical power shortage.

The production sees the return of original composer Tomáš Dvořák for the soundtrack. Mechanically, the game will feature full gamepad support at launch, though players retain the option to use traditional point-and-click controls.

CEO Jakub Dvorský noted that the decision to develop the sequel now stems from a sense of urgency regarding the passage of time and the state of the world, while also expressing gratitude to the long-term fanbase.
