Key information

A new free and open-source utility titled SCSKiller has been released to combat shader and Pipeline State Object compilation stutter in modern PC games. Developed by BlueHeisenberg, the tool scans shaders included with a game, predicts likely pipelines, and compiles them directly into the GPU driver's cache prior to launching the title.

At the time of writing, the utility provides support for NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards under DirectX 12, as well as DirectX 11 games specifically on NVIDIA hardware, while Intel GPUs remain unsupported. Additionally, the software features automatic game discovery across major platforms including Steam, Epic Games Store, EA App, GOG, Ubisoft Connect, Battle.net, and the Xbox PC app. An optional recorder is also included to capture pipelines not directly identifiable from game files.

Early testing conducted by the developer demonstrates significant reductions in stuttering during gameplay. In FINAL FANTASY VII Rebirth on an RTX 5090 with a cold cache, stalls lasting 20 milliseconds or longer dropped from 19 to zero after using the utility. Hogwarts Legacy saw stalls decrease from 1,014 to 87, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor experienced a drop from 9,038 stalls down to 11.
