Key information
Publisher 2K Sports and Take-Two have scheduled the end of life for NBA 2K25, which launched in September 2024. The title will be removed from digital storefronts on October 30, roughly two years after its release, while online servers will be completely shut down on December 31.
Starting January 1, players will no longer be able to play multiplayer or access online modes. Furthermore, several modes that rely on virtual currency, such as MyTeam and MyCareer, will stop functioning entirely because players will no longer be able to earn virtual currency in the game.
This means the single-player story mode MyCareer will be rendered unplayable since player progression is tied to virtual currency. Following the server closures, only modes such as Play Now, MyNBA, and The W that do not require a connection to 2K servers will remain available.
Gamers who already purchased the title can redownload and play it until the end of the year, echoing previous controversies surrounding Top Spin 2K25 where short server lifespans drew criticism before publisher adjustments.
