Key information

Electronic Arts producer Jim Vessella has announced a 30th anniversary edition of the 1994 space combat simulator Wing Commander 3: Heart of the Tiger. The project was confirmed during a presentation at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo, marking a return for the title originally created by Chris Roberts.

The remaster became possible after Vessella discovered 600 original tapes containing the game's full-motion video footage while digitizing EA's video archives. This material allows for the inclusion of both original and upscaled versions of the cinematic sequences featuring actors like Mark Hamill, Malcolm McDowell, and John Rhys-Davies.

Technical enhancements for the anniversary edition include support for 60FPS gameplay and controller compatibility. Furthermore, the release will integrate the Kilrathi Saga, which is expected to bundle the first two entries of the Wing Commander series along with their various expansions.

The game is slated for release on Steam, GOG, and the EA launcher. Despite these details, specific information regarding a release date or visual previews remains unavailable at this time.
