Key information

Valve has officially confirmed that production of the Valve Index virtual reality headset has ceased. Originally launched on June 28, 2019, the device served as a significant step for the company in immersive gaming, notably supporting titles like Half-Life: Alyx.

While manufacturing has ended, Valve is continuing to sell remaining stock of headsets, controllers, and accessories at a discount until supplies are exhausted. Notably, the product is no longer available for purchase on the company's website for users in Spain.

Valve has assured existing owners that support for the hardware remains unchanged. The devices will continue to be compatible with Steam and SteamVR, and the Steam support team remains available to assist with any technical issues, with no end date for this service currently specified.

This transition coincides with the release of Steam Frame, Valve's new VR device. Unlike the wired Index, Steam Frame utilizes wireless PC streaming, integrated cameras for tracking, and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor to run games locally via a specialized version of SteamOS.
