Key information
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot recently addressed an investor inquiry regarding the future of the Watch Dogs franchise. Game File reported that Guillemot stated Ubisoft still considers the intellectual property to be an important brand for the future, though he did not elaborate on specific plans.
According to Game File's Stephen Totilo, Guillemot indicated that no new Watch Dogs titles are currently in active development. This implies that the company may still be determining the next direction for the series.
The original Watch Dogs debuted in 2014 after initially aiming for a November 2013 launch alongside the PS4. It was positioned as a rival to Grand Theft Auto 5. A sequel followed in San Francisco two years later, while the third entry, Watch Dogs: Legion, launched in 2020 featuring the ability to control any non-player character, though it received mixed reviews.
Outside of video games, a Watch Dogs film project wrapped production two years ago and underwent reshoots last year. However, the movie currently lacks a release date and meaningful promotion.
