Key information
The Wi-Fi Alliance recently certified a pair of unannounced PlayStation hardware items. These listings point toward potential revisions of Sony's streaming handheld device, tying back into earlier rumors regarding an OLED screen variant.
The hardware bears the classifications of Gaming Console/Peripherals along with model numbers CFI-Y2000 and CFI-Y2105. These designations follow sequentially after the model number CFI-Y1001 assigned to the current Portal unit. Furthermore, documentation reveals that these devices operate on Android 15, matching the Android operating system used by the existing model, unlike the custom operating system utilized by the PS5 home console.
Regarding networking capabilities, the upcoming hardware lacks significantly enhanced Wi-Fi specifications for streaming. The certification indicates support for 1x1 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi frequencies without incorporating 6GHz compatibility or additional antennas.
Although official confirmation remains pending since PlayStation did not immediately respond to inquiries, hardware leaker KeplerL2 mentioned previously that an OLED version of the Portal was in development. The original Portal featuring an 8-inch LCD screen was released in late 2023.
