Key information
Valve has announced plans to replace the manually curated slots within Steam's "Discounts and Events" section with personalized recommendations. The update is anticipated to launch in early 2027, although a final release date has not yet been confirmed by the company.
Currently, the page displays promotions planned by Steam partners or chosen by Valve's team, which are restricted by a fixed number of slots. The new algorithmic approach aims to increase visibility for a broader variety of discounted games and sales events. During internal tests, this method resulted in customers being exposed to 10 times as many games in that specific section throughout a single day.
Valve noted a significant increase in store page visits, wishlists, and shopping cart additions during the testing period. However, these figures reflect general activity rather than a guaranteed tenfold increase in actual sales or total traffic. Concerns have also been raised that heavy personalization might make it harder for users to discover titles outside their normal genre preferences.
The upcoming modification applies strictly to the Discounts and Events section. Steam's primary "Featured and Recommended" tab will continue to merge editorially chosen titles with personal recommendations, while other tabs will also remain available for players seeking curated content.
