Key information
Developer Fuse Games, formed by former Burnout developers, has released Star Wars: Galactic Racer as their debut title. The game captures the spirit of classic podracing titles like Episode 1 Racer and Racer Revenge. Set between the original and sequel trilogies, the story follows a pilot named Shade navigating the corrupt Galactic League to confront Kestar Bool.
The campaign functions as a roguelike racer where players chart paths through a branching tree of events. Each event yields cash, vehicle parts, abilities, or stat boosts. Between races, players can engage in on-foot interludes to repair vehicles, purchase parts, and build relationships with other pilots to unlock permanent buffs and unique races.
Failure in a run results in the vehicle being scrapped and credits refunded, with certain gathered resources invested into permanent upgrades. Mechanically, the game centers on risk-reward systems, including a ramjet boost mechanic that allows players to travel at extreme speeds while risking engine overheating.
Courses span six different planets featuring mixed day and night times, varied weather conditions, and multiple paths. Visually, the title features locations such as Mos Espa, Jakku, and Tatooine, accompanied by a soundtrack that blends into the background while remaining epic during key moments.
