Key information
Developed by Guildford-based studio Fuse Games, Star Wars: Galactic Racer marks the first Star Wars racing title since Star Wars Episode I: Racer in 1999. Polygon spoke with Lucasfilm Games executive producer Craig Derrick and Fuse founder Matt Webster about creating an arcade racer that aims to revolutionize the genre.
Mechanically, the game embraces a run-based roguelite progression where players complete several races to reach a qualifying race for the Galactic League. Webster confirmed that Galactic Racer is technically a roguelike, built around consequences, stakes, and hard-earned victories requiring skill improvement.
Reviewing the title, Polygon reported that the game offers minimal hand-holding, dropping players into deep mechanics without an in-depth tutorial. Webster described this deliberate lack of guidance as a philosophical choice designed to give players the rewarding joy of discovery.
Published by Lucasfilm Games, Star Wars: Galactic Racer is scheduled to be released on Oct. 6 for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X, aiming to deliver an authentic Star Wars racing experience.
