Key information
Cloud Imperium Games has officially launched a Steam page for Squadron 42, the single-player spin-off set within the Star Citizen universe. While the title is not scheduled for release until the second quarter of 2027, its presence on the storefront marks a significant milestone for the project.
The game features a narrative set in 2945, focusing on a UEE Navy recruit navigating a galactic war against human outlaws and alien threats. Players will serve aboard a capital ship, engaging in both high-speed dogfights and ground combat while making choices that influence their legacy.
Cloud Imperium Games has assembled a notable cast for the project, including Mark Hamill, Gillian Anderson, Henry Cavill, and Gary Oldman. These actors appear in both cinematic cutscenes and active gameplay sequences to ensure players remain immersed in the unfolding drama.
CEO Chris Roberts recently delayed the release from late 2026 to the second quarter of 2027 to avoid competing with the launch of GTA 6. The studio aims to provide a blockbuster experience that serves as an approachable entry point, distinct from the complexity of the main MMO.
