Key information

Cloud Imperium Games has unveiled a new trailer and an official Steam store page for Squadron 42, the single-player campaign spin-off of Star Citizen. The project features a star-studded cast, including Henry Cavill, Mark Hamill, and Gary Oldman.

The game blends space combat, first-person shooting, and narrative-driven simulation. Set in 2945, players join the United Empire of Earth navy as a recruit, living and working aboard a capital ship while navigating a galactic conflict. Gameplay involves piloting fighters, infiltrating enemy bases, and making critical decisions that influence the story.

Developers emphasize that motion-captured performances are integrated directly into the gameplay, extending beyond traditional cutscenes. Players can engage in ship customization, hacking mini-games, and various social interactions with crew members to build relationships.

Originally slated for 2026, the release has been pushed to the second quarter of 2027. Cloud Imperium Games stated the delay is intended to avoid competition with the launch of GTA 6. While the game is now available for wishlisting on Steam, a specific release date remains unannounced.
