Key information

Sony's new QSSR, or Quick Spectral Super Resolution, AI upscaling feature for the base PlayStation 5 might be integrated into a wider range of games beyond initial titles such as Marvel's Wolverine and Ghost of Yotei. Comments from SIE principal engineer Daniel Craig indicate that the technology could see broader adoption.

In an interview with Digital Foundry, Daniel Craig described QSSR as a drop-in replacement for games that currently support PSSR. Craig mentioned that tuning settings for games requires a bit more time, taking perhaps a few days, such as when development teams adjust streaming settings to guarantee higher quality mips remain resident.

Craig described retrofits as relatively straightforward and low risk, while expressing the most excitement for future games specifically authored with both QSSR and PSSR in mind. QSSR serves as a lightweight alternative to PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, delivering enhancements to image stability and detail on the base PS5.

Additionally, Gran Turismo 7 players on PS5 and PS4 have the opportunity to acquire two limited-edition vehicles, the Dallara SF23 Super Formula and the Ford GT Race Car '18. Players must watch the in-game World Series streams prior to October 19 to claim them.

Separately, the October 2026 PlayStation Plus Monthly Games lineup features titles such as F1 25, Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2, and Hunt: Showdown 1896.
