Sony Interactive Entertainment announced a novel artificial intelligence upscaling system known as Quick Spectral Super Resolution designed for standard PlayStation 5 hardware. This creation stems from the ongoing graphics partnership between Sony and AMD.

Quick Spectral Super Resolution utilizes a streamlined neural network architecture combined with hand-tuned implementations to boost frame rates and visual fidelity. While the Pro variant maintains exclusivity over PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, principal engineer Daniel Craig noted that the new solution primarily relies on FP16 math alongside packed math instructions.

According to Daniel Craig, the technology serves as a drop-in substitute for games already supporting the Pro feature, though tuning requires additional days for adjusting streaming settings. Jasmin Patry from Sucker Punch Productions stated that the tool resolves fine details with unprecedented temporal stability.

The upcoming releases Marvel's Wolverine by Insomniac Games and Ghost of Yōtei developed by Sucker Punch Productions will serve as the initial software to adopt this innovation on standard hardware.
